Two weeks in Tanzania draw to a close

Leaving Tanzania behind with a heavy but full heart, having met so many amazing people who have opened their homes, farms and hearts to me about both the challenges they face in their communities but mostly the huge opportunities which lie in this incredible country.

My visits have covered cattle, goats, pigs, elephants, maize, seaweed, habaneros, cashews, coffee, macadamia, bananas, sisal production, permaculture, insect protein, to mention a few, but most important have been the conversations I’ve had with individuals about their love for the land, its people and building more resilient food systems in a country which is faced with extreme levels of poverty, human wildlife conflict, food supply chain disruption and corruption.

Like many countries in Africa and more globally, Tanzania is under threat by increasing climate pressures, with extreme weather events leaving their mark on the land and damaging livelihoods in the process.

However, the people here are more resilient than any I have ever met and are full of hope and hunger for change. So many innovative and passionate individuals are already leading the way in addressing national food security, regenerating degraded soils and lifting whole families out of poverty, empowering whole communities to join them in this journey.

I know I will be returning here soon ❤️ but for now, next stop Kenya
