A mind-blowing example of Human wildlife coexistence

An extraordinary example of humans, livestock and wildlife living together in perfect harmony, in a country often marred by human wildlife conflict.

Outside the village of Karambendo, near the border between Moshi, Tanzania and Kenya, we stood for two hours and watched while hundreds of cattle and goats from surrounding maasai communities gathered and took their turn to drink water from the man-made waterhole. The elephants stood patiently by the side, observing their behaviour, awaiting their own turn to drink.

This was truly one of the most powerful experiences of my life, observing how man, livestock and elephants had developed a sense of order and respect for one another, a ritual which they practice daily, but one I’m told is rarely witnessed.
